Listening to Your Hand in Mine as we speak. I never heard the song before. Thank you for sharing it.

Again, what a beautiful heartfelt story Jenn. It's hard for me to grasp how life devoted to a church must be like, but denying music sounds unnecessary cruel. Music is part of our DNA. It speaks to our souls. Happy to read you found that connection with music again.

Looking forward to the next story!

Thank you for reading and listening, Marie! I totally agree that music is part of us! Denying that can be very damaging (it was in my case), and I'm glad I'm reconnected to it too.

This article is clear and concise, about your journey with music, from finding joy and emotional expression in it as a child, to later feeling conflicted between your faith and personal connection to music. Thank you for reminding me about cassette tapes, you had to be careful not to damage them :-).

I love this so much. I've always loved Allison Krauss. Music is such a universal language and I also lost my relationship with music for awhile but I've been listening to a lot more lately. Thank you so much for sharing.

■ Some of my favs by LaMotagne are: "Trouble, Forever My Friend, and Jolene" from the same album.

■ I like "Lay My Burden Down" from the Paper Airplane Album by Krauss.

■ "Sound of Silence" by S&G has always been a good choice as it is from my era of music.

It would be good to compare notes 😉.

Hi -- I really love this and I'm excited to read more. Your writing is excellent. Your description of never feeling articulate, but finding words in music very much resonates with me. I also very much understand the lack of verbal articulation but comfort/ease in expressing yourself through writing. The biggest thing music has done for me in recent years is revisiting songs that I used to love but maybe wasn't grasping the lyrical meaning at the time. When I listen now they absolutely make sense to my feelings and experiences even though I didn't feeli like I was internalizing it in those ways when I was originally consuming it. It's very emotional when I realize *why* I loved certain songs. Anyway. Thank you for sharing this. Hope you are doing well. Take care. -Allie

Allie, thanks so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience. I'm glad you can relate! It's so interesting how we can resonate so deeply with songs without even fully understanding why until later. I've had similar moments. I appreciate your insights and look forward to discussing more with you!

This was such a beautifully worded and thought provoking story. Music is so important. I find it so therapeutic to play music or to sing at home when I'm feeling overwhelmed especially. It calms my soul and I love how you've come to embrace the music that speaks to your soul too ❤️
